Perte de monde

Musée Beaulne, 96 rue de l’Union, Coaticook, Québec, Canada, J1A 1Y9

Artist Sophie Roy proposes a sequence of varied paintings that explore our relationship with the world. Her project "Perte de monde" refers to this feeling that the world is slipping away from us, which is reflected, among other things, in the concerns and the feeling of helplessness that we feel about the various threats that weigh on our planet and its inhabitants

Sophie Roy's artistic practice evolves around alternative photographic methods, such as digital manipulation as well as mixed media that combine image transfer and painting. Through her work, Sophie Roy explores ideas, concepts and universal themes such as living beings, nature and society today. The artist seeks to create poetic and symbolic works in order to arouse emotions and reflections in the spectator. She does this by superimposing, juxtaposing and manipulating various photos of landscapes, urban places, people and animals. She sometimes combines recent photos and archival photos, highlighting the past and the present while opening up new temporal perspectives. Unlike a photographic snapshot which captures and freezes a precise moment in time, photomontage allows her to express a dynamic vision of life, made up of changes, movements and transformations.

Sophie Roy is a visual artist who lives and works in the Montreal, Canada area. She has exhibited her work solo on several occasions and participated in group exhibitions across the region.
