Let’s discover the Queen’s Hôtel!

Musée Beaulne, 96 rue de l’Union, Coaticook, Québec, Canada, J1A 1Y9

After several years of historical research and archaeological excavations, the long-awaited moment has finally arrived, namely, revealing to the public the history of the legendary Queen’s Hotel.

Built in 1863 and destroyed by fire in 1897, the Queen’s Hotel stood out among the hotels of the era, to the point of acquiring a reputation as a luxurious hotel. Its location near the railway station (behind the Norton Castle which houses the Beaulne Museum) made it a first choice establishment.

The artifacts unearthed through archaeological excavations which took place from 2014 to 2019 as well as historical research, have produced a wealth of knowledge on construction, architecture, life in this establishment of this type as well as the circumstances of the fire which marked its end.

This exhibition covers all of this captivating history while presenting many artifacts. It also includes a dose of interactivity with a digital table which offers a game for all audiences. In addition, an area dedicated for children and their parents where they can familiarize themselves with the world of archaeology by reassembling some broken objets similar to the ones found in the excavations.

We would like to thank the City of Coaticook and the Ministry of Culture and Communications for funding this project. Our thanks also go to our technical partner Patrimoine Experts who carried out the excavations as well as the synthesis of the historical and archaeological research which made it possible to produce this exhibition.
