Le Grand Henri, legendary magician
Henri Brousseau known as “LE GRAND HENRI” was born in Coaticook on December 19th, 1921. His interest in magic started at the age of 13, after having attended a show in his hometown.
From then on, he began to learn from books and made the material necessary for his magic tricks. He moved to the town of Magog at the age of 19 to work as a security guard at the Dominion Textile Industries but it did not diminish his determination to continue on the path of magic. In 1944, he presented his first show to the public at the Sacré-Coeur College in Coaticook under the name of RICONI. Subsequently, he decided to change his name once more to SATANI before finally adopting the name of “LE GRANG HENRI” in 1952. From then on, he led a dazzling career which made him known throughout Quebec and even beyond. Mr. Henri Brousseau passed away in 1995.
Self-taught, “LE GRANG HENRI” was a man of many talents. He took care of everything from the conception to the presentation of the show, including the production of the equipment and promotion. He was widely worshiped wherever he went.
The museum's tribute to this celebrity echoes to the Magic Festival which has been an event organized in the town of Coaticook for now 3 years with resounding success.
The exhibition immerses visitors in the world of magic through the life of the illustrious magician. It includes original artifacts made by him and used during his career, archival documents and two videos: one presents the poignant testimonies of one of his sons and two daughters; the other shows his son performing some magic tricks
Come one, come all!
