Anagogie d’une dévastation
Through the material of clay, the artist highlights a profound value in his life, namely living in the present moment, but also making us see life through a miraculously different eye.
Ceramist artist, Chantal Turcotte is a graduate of the « Maison des métiers d’art de Québec » at the « Cégep de Limoilou », in addition to training from the Concordia University. She has 6 years of practice, development and artistic involvement. Chantal Turcotte lives and works in Thetford Mines.
Chantal Turcotte's attraction to clay as a medium comes from her personal life background linked to relationship through touch. From the beginning of handling clay, a very malleable medium, until its very last firing, it bears the traces of the artist's love of gesture. The « Memento Mori », a reference to the inevitably mortal condition of humans, is a great source of inspiration for her work.
Anagogy is a method of interpreting sacred Scripture aimed at extracting from literal meaning the spiritual and mythical meaning. Devastation is the action of destroying. The Anagogy of Devastation is the artist's way of deconstructing herself through the interpretation we have of the events that surround us, through our beliefs, our values, our education, etc.
The opening takes place on Sunday May 19 at 2 p.m. Free entry!
